In the area
At a distance of 4 km is Massa Marittima, a characteristic medieval town of great artistic interest, once an important mining-town, an important religious center since the IX century.
Its Cathedral, San Cerbone, is a jewel of Romanesque-Gothic architecture (XIII-XIV century), recently restored, declared patrimony of humanity by UNESCO.
At a distance of 4 km, in the direction of Grosseto, is the legendary and mysterious Lake “Termale dell’Accesa”, also an Etruscan archaeological site.

At a distance of 15 km is the seaside of Follonica, with its long beautiful beaches protected by the characteristic Mediterranean pine forests. To the north the shore continues with the Park of “Sterpaia”. From Piombino ferries leave every day for the splendid islands of Elba and Capraia.
Proceeding toward the south along the coastal road, through Mediterranean vegetation, pine woods and rock outcroppings, you come to “Punta Ala”, a residential area endowed with a tourist port and sporting facilities, the peninsula which closes the Gulf of Follonica.

At a brief distance is “Castiglione della Pescaia, a famous summer tourist town with an important fishing port. The town is dominated by an Aragonese fortress of the XIV century.
Quite near is the Park of the “Uccellina”, extending from “Marina di Alberese” to “Talamone” which has conserved its natural state thanks to the creation of the Natural Park of the Maremma in 1975. Another place of major attraction is the promontory of “Monte Argentario”, with its high, steep coasts and crystal-clear water, which was an island in the past, but is today connected to the mainland by three strips of earth called “tomboli.”
From the port of Santo Stefano on the promontory of “Monte Argentario”, ferries leave for the picturesque islands of “Giglio” and “Giannutri”

How to reach Podere Brenna
FROM THE NORTH
FROM GENOA
Take highway A12-E80 in the direction of Leghorn to the last exit ROSIGNANO MARITTIMO. Get on the (E80) Aurelia SS1 bis, direction Rome. Proceed to FOLLONICA EST-MASSA MARITTIMA and continue in the direction of Massa Marittima. At the sign CITTA’ DI MASSA MARITTIMA (after an Esso gas station), turn right and follow the signs to LAGO ACCESA, CAPANNE. After about 100 m, turn left, direction of CAPANNE, and proceed for about 4-5 km through a wooded area. Then, take the dirt road at the fenced-in property on the right leading to PODERE BRENNA.
FROM FLORENCE
You can choose between two routes: coastal or Chianti. The coastal route is longer, but has wider and faster roads; the Chianti route is shorter, but it is far more scenic, allowing you to enjoy the enchanting landscapes of the Sienese hills. The medieval abbey of San Galgano along the way is well worth a stop.
Chianti Route
Exit highway A1 (Autostrada del Sole) at FIRENZE–CERTOSA and head south. At exit COLLE VAL D’ELSA SUD, take the Firenze-Siena Palio freeway. Continue on the SP 541 in the direction of Follonica-Grosseto. Then, at the picturesque Castle of Frosini, take the SP 441 in the direction of Massa Marittima. At Massa Marittima, pass the intersection on the right leading into the town and continue in the direction of Follonica to the second intersection on the left where you see a sign indicating MASSA MARITTIMA just before an Esso gas station. Turn left at the sign and then right in the direction of LAGO ACCESA–CAPANNE. After about 100 m, turn left in the direction of CAPANNE. Proceed for about 4-5 km through a wooded area, and then take the dirt road at the fenced-in property on the right leading to PODERE BRENNA.
Coastal Route
Exit highway A1(Autostrada del Sole) at FIRENZE SIGNA. Take the Firenze-Pisa-Livorno freeway in the direction of Pisa-Livorno. Exit at COLLESALVETTI–VICARELLO and take highway A12-E80 in the direction of ROSIGNANO MARITTIMO (where the highway ends). Continue on the E80 (Aurelia SS1 bis) in the direction of Roma. Exit at FOLLONICA EST–MASSA MARITTIMA and continue in the direction of Massa Marittima. Turn left at the sign indicating CITTA’ DI MASSA MARITTIMA and then right in the direction of LAGO ACCESA–CAPANNE. After about 100 m, turn left in the direction of CAPANNE. Proceed for about 4-5 km through a wooded area, and then take the dirt road at the fenced-in property on the right leading to PODERE BRENNA.
FROM THE SOUTH
FROM ROME
Take highway A2 in the direction of Civitavecchia to the last exit. The road continues as the E80 (Via Aurelia). Continue, direction Follonica, to FOLLONICA EST-MASSA MARITTIMA and then proceed to Massa Marittima. Turn left at the sign indicating CITTA’ DI MASSA MARITTIMA and then right in the direction of LAGO ACCESA–CAPANNE. After about 100 m, turn left in the direction of CAPANNE. Proceed for about 4-5 km through a wooded area, and then take the dirt road at the fenced-in property on the right leading to PODERE BRENNA.
From the Podere Brenna it is also possible to reach...
Orbetello, an active fishing village where a strip of land divides the lagoon in two, with the important nature reserve of the WWF, rich in flora and fauna.
Not far from Grosseto (50 km) you can visit different Etruscan and medieval archaeological sites, easily reached by roads through the picturesque landscape of the Tuscan hinterland, such as Sovana, a very charming town immersed in the silence of its medieval streets. In the nearby woods is an important Etruscan necropolis with multi-room tombs dating from the IV and III centuries B.C.
Sorano is a picturesque medieval town built on a cliff of volcanic tufa rock.
Pitigliano is a town built on a massive block of tufa, perforated by ancient Etruscan tombs, constructed from the same material it is built on, with the spectacular appearance of an imposing sculpture of houses seemingly carved from the high stone cliffs on which they rest.
At a distance of some 80 km one can visit Siena, world-renowned for its “Palio” horserace which takes place twice a year - on July 2 and on August 16 - in the stupendous Piazza del Campo, a traditional folk event still very dear to the citizens of each “contrada” (quarter) of the city.
At a distance of some 150 km is Florence, city of art and cradle of the Renaissance, which needs no comment or description.
